Horizons Week requires parents of students attending overseas trips to complete the parental agreement form by Friday, 16 October.

Dynasty Day takes place on Friday, 16 October. Students should arrive on time for morning registration, and school will dismiss at 3.10pm as usual.
Diwali Ball will bring our school community together on Thursday, 12 November. The event features student performances. Early bird tickets are available through this link until Monday, 26 October.
Find Your Purpose, Realise Your Potential
TEDxWIS 2027 speaker applications are open to all Years 7-13 students. Centred on the theme The Stories We Live By, this event offers a platform to share inspiring ideas in February. Please log in to your student account and submit your application through this link by Monday, 12 October.
Ski and Snowboard Trip to Niseko, Japan, from 27 March to 3 April 2027, is an exciting opportunity led by our teachers. Registration is open to students from Year 8 to 13. Please discuss as a family before completing this form by Sunday, 18 October 2026.
Weekly Highlights and Latest News
This week, our stage showcased an incredible array of student talent across dance, vocal, and instrumental performances. Students from all year groups supported their peers in the audience, demonstrating our strong community and house spirit. Well done to the students who did a fantastic job emceeing and managing the lighting and sound behind the scenes.

On Monday, our Higher Education & Careers team welcomed a culinary programme leader from the Business and Hotel Management School (BHMS) in Switzerland. Food Science students from Years 10 to 12 participated in a hands-on masterclass, applying scientific knowledge to the art of Swiss chocolate making. The session gave students practical insights into global university pathways and future career opportunities in the culinary and hospitality sectors.
Last week, the Year 7s I&S students had an exciting time visiting the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and Victoria Harbour. During the trip, they learned about the development of Hong Kong trade, the impact of the British colony and the opium war. This was all part of their current unit on Global Interactions and the impact of trade and power.
Our Year 12 IB Film students, teachers and staff spent two days this week in a hands-on workshop with professional scriptwriter Ian Pike. Working in groups, students brainstormed original narrative ideas and developed storytelling techniques. They then applied these expert insights directly to their practical filming sessions, refining both their technical craft and creative collaboration.
On Friday, a group of our Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) Silver level students set off on an outdoor hiking adventure, accompanied by two WIS staff members. The team challenged themselves along a demanding trail from Violet Hill to The Twins in Tai Tam, gaining valuable hands-on experience in navigating using printed maps and compasses.
Students across year groups are collaborating to create a student-led podcast series. Senior students are mentoring younger peers through the digital production process, from writing and refining scripts to recording. In recent sessions, this group drafted episodes reviewing trending youth topics, including fidget toys and foldable tech. We look forward to seeing their podcast come to life.
Beyond refining physical techniques, our students have shown great teamwork on the court in badminton and netball. It is fantastic to see students staying active and building connections.
Partnering with Kids4Kids, a charity dedicated to empowering children to make a positive impact, our students are developing interactive buddy reading activities for younger children. Our students are building leadership, collaboration, and communication skills through this meaningful community service. We look forward to seeing our students inspire younger learners through this initiative.
Well done to the student organisers who led our food drive for Feeding Hong Kong and Bethune House this week. Thanks to the generosity of students, families and staff across our school community. Your collective action demonstrated our values of community and compassion in practice.

Our U20 Girls Hockey team demonstrated outstanding resilience and determination in their recent tournament fixtures. Facing tough competition, the players fought hard until the final whistle, supporting one another on and off the pitch. We look forward to seeing their continued growth in the upcoming fixtures.
Year 11 student Marcus secured second runner-up in the 3.3km Men's Open Grade (14 years old or above) at the 2026-2027 Hong Kong Open Water Swimming Competition. Marking Marcus's first time competing over such a long distance, this achievement highlights his remarkable endurance and determination.
Class of 2026 alumna McCarley won a Gold Medal in the Girls' Skiff - 29er at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. As a former member of our High Performance Student Athletes programme, McCarley continues to demonstrate exceptional dedication to her sport. We are incredibly proud to see her realise her potential beyond her journey at West Island School.
Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) warmly invites you and your family to our annual Diwali Ball. This special occasion brings our school community together to celebrate our rich cultural diversity and share in the festive spirit. We look forward to seeing you there.
