Weekly Highlights
Year 11 student Alexa and Year 9 student Rylee achieved Merit awards in their respective Chinese Speech competitions at the 77th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. Both of them have participated in this competition annually since Year 7, consistently receiving awards—a testament to their sustained commitment and continuous growth.
As the majority of contestants in this annual competition come from local schools, our students' achievements reflect not only their personal dedication and talent but also the persistent effort and supportive environment fostered within our school community.
Well done to Alexa and Rylee for their outstanding performance, and a huge thank you to the teachers who have supported them every step of the way.
West Island School students, alongside peers from across ESF, were recently featured on CNN’s MyFreedomDay—a student-driven global event dedicated to raising awareness of modern slavery.
Last month, our students took part in a Sweatshop Challenge at KGV School, gaining a first-hand understanding of the realities of forced labour. This experiential learning session is vital for students to develop true empathy and a global perspective. Well done to our students for their meaningful contribution and their dedication to spreading awareness of such a critical issue.
Students who participated in the Weez Walk team relay in January were invited to the closing ceremony hosted by MindHK and The Weez Project. A special well done to Year 13 students Natalie C and Natalie L for their fantastic job MCing the event.
