We are thrilled to announce that West Island School has officially been awarded the prestigious "School for Excellence in French" (Advanced Level) by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau. This recognition highlights our European Languages Department's dedication to delivering an innovative, immersive, and high-impact language education that prepares our students to thrive as global citizens.
A massive félicitations to our European Languages team, our European Languages Ambassadors, and all of our French learners whose passion and hard work made this recognition possible. We look forward to continuing to provide world-class language pathways for our community.
IB and BTEC 2026 Exam Results
IB and BTEC 2026 Exam Results
Our Class of 2026 achieved exceptional results in the IB Diploma Programme (DP), IB Career-related Programme (CP), and BTEC.
As a non-selective school, we are proud to celebrate that 96% of our IBDP students achieved 30 points or above. 23 students were awarded the IBCP and 82% of students who took BTEC qualifications achieved a Distinction or above.
These outstanding results reflect the hard work and determination of our graduates, alongside the unwavering support of our teachers and staff. Details of the exam results are available on the school website here.

54 of our Class of 2026 graduates received ESF Chairman’s Awards for Excellence, with a total of 55 awards recognising outstanding achievements in academic and non-academic areas, including leadership, community service, school spirit and values, sports, creativity, and sustained drive and determination. World Scholar's Cup - Global Round
World Scholar's Cup - Global Round
This summer, 47 students brought West Island School to the spotlight on the global stage at the World Scholar’s Cup. Competing in the prestigious Global Round in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, our students demonstrated exceptional dedication, earning impressive achievements across multiple disciplines. Our students have collected 100 silver medals, 141 gold medals and 25 trophies - a phenomenal achievement, placing WIS as one of the highest-performing delegations in only our second year of competition. A special recognition goes to Year 11 student Teah, who achieved Top Overall Senior Scholar.
Beyond the accolades, we are immensely proud of the sense of belonging and commitment our scholars embodied. Every student showed true courage, stepping out of their comfort zones, sharing their talents, and lifting each other at every turn. Along this journey, they gained a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them, building lifelong friendships and creating memories that will last far beyond the competition. Our lead teacher, Mr Nason, was awarded the "Coach of the Decade" at the event. Thank you to Mr Nason and our teaching and support staff team who supported our students throughout this journey.

Poly U x ESF Medical Laboratory Science
In July, our aspiring WIS scientists joined their ESF peers to complete the immersive PolyU x ESF Medical Laboratory Science Summer Ambassador Programme. With the unwavering support of our WIS and ESF science laboratory technicians, they gained hands-on experience in clinical chemistry, molecular diagnostics, and haematology. Our students will take these insights back to our school community, sharing their experiences through research posters and assemblies to inspire future health science careers.

Year 12 Linus and Kaden brought their sustainable ink design to the Hong Kong Science Fair (HKSF) when they were in Year 11. They worked extremely hard to make and test their design during their preparation for their GCSEs.
Linus and Kaden attended the HKSF Exhibition last weekend. Their booth was incredibly successful, and they were interviewed by several media outlets. They were beyond excited to further develop their research next year to produce more rigorous data.

Year 11 student Tay achieved remarkable recognition at last academic year’s SCMP Student of the Year Awards, earning a shortlisted place in the top 12 for the Scientist and Mathematician category. Tay valued the opportunity and expressed gratitude to the dedicated teachers who supported his journey every step of the way.

Our elite student-athletes have shown extraordinary dedication this summer, balancing intensive training schedules, high-level competitions, and academic commitments. West Island School is committed to working hand-in-hand with their families, ensuring our talented students receive the comprehensive support needed to thrive both in the classroom and in their sporting endeavours.

Year 13 student Haidi delivered a remarkable performance at the recent Fencing World Championships in Hong Kong. In the individual event, she secured a personal best by reaching the top 32 among 189 elite competitors, notably defeating the world #7 fencer. As a starter in the team event, she helped Hong Kong secure 8th place out of 36 teams, matching the Hong Kong Women’s Épée team’s all-time record. We wish Haidi the best of luck as she competes at the Asian Games in September.

Year 13 student Anya achieved outstanding results in her equestrian competitions over the summer break.
Representing Hong Kong, she qualified for the Finals at the National Youth Dressage Championship 2026 in Beijing and placed 4th and 5th at the Prime Minister’s Cup CSIJ-B Showjumping in Malaysia against 17 international riders from 14 countries.
Anya has also been re-selected for the HK Equestrian Team’s Youth Squad for 2026/2027.

Year 12 student Gwyneth recently represented Hong Kong at the Women’s Junior AHF (Asian Hockey Federation) Cup 2026 Championship in Muscat, Oman. Competing against formidable talent from across Asia, Gwyneth demonstrated stellar skill and tenacity on the field, ultimately helping her team secure a commendable fourth-place finish.

This Monday and Tuesday, our teachers and staff worked collectively as a whole and went back to their faculties and departments to reflect and improve their strategies for our students' personalised learning. We also had a child protection and safeguarding refresher session to ensure our school remains a safe, nurturing environment for every child.
Our staff is deeply committed to continuous growth and will continue to strive for excellence in supporting our students' academic and personal journeys this year.
Ms Zheng, Teacher of Chinese, spent three weeks of her summer holiday at an AI Innovation Bootcamp in Hangzhou, China. She explored cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence trends across diverse industries and reflected on how AI models revolutionise language processing.
Ms Zheng is excited to bring these real-world industry insights back to her classroom to guide students to critically interact with AI and help them bridge the gap between cultural identity and emerging technologies.
