Weekly Highlights
From the personalised learning within our performing arts scene to the amazing performances on stage, what makes this production truly special is the breadth of involvement beyond the stage.
Our Creative Arts production team managed all technical aspects—lighting, sound and stage management—demonstrating exceptional leadership and professionalism.
Our BTEC Level 2 Performing Arts students supported acting workshops and managed the front of house. The Creative Arts Faculty and students crafted unique puppets that bring characters to vivid life. Mira (Class of 2025 ) has lent her creative expertise to design the eye-catching poster.
The inclusive and collaborative effort across the whole school community has made this year's school musical an absolute showstopper. Well done to everyone who participated.
On Monday, our Student Leadership Programme took another positive step forward through experiential learning.
Dynasty Leaders and Head Students explored leadership styles and attributes linked to the IB Learner Profile during a presentation led by an external professional coach. They also enjoyed their team-building exercises and a leadership celebration event at the Aberdeen Country Park.
Today, our Year 9 students proudly showcased their innovative creativity in the Visual Arts corridor. They explored digital art, manipulating their photographs to communicate concepts of technological systems using augmented reality (AR). During their creative process, they learned to appreciate the ubiquitous technology around us and the vast world of innovation it represents.
In early November, our Year 10 Geographers spent a day on a popular field trip to survey the Lung Hang River in Sai Kung Country Park. They learned about the surveying equipment and the skills required to use it effectively. Collecting data on the river's width, gradient and velocity, our students moved along the river to investigate whether it followed the established model of river channel variables.
Just before Horizon Week, the Year 11 Geography students spent a day perfecting their urban fieldwork skills across Hong Kong Island. They collected data on building height, land use, traffic count, and other key urban variables, stretching from Kennedy Town all the way to Chai Wan. The students took the data back to the classroom for analysis to investigate whether Hong Kong follows the characteristics predicted by urban models.
Year 8 student Justin Huang has won the Know-vember Book Trailer Competition. Justin demonstrated his passion for reading and reflected on his learning through the lens of Theory of Knowledge (TOK). He took his passion to the next level by presenting his insights using multimedia. Well done to Justin.
On Tuesday, our Head Students started to collect voluntary monetary donations for the respectfully dressed Non-Uniform Day. Students and families also generously donated at the school musical nights on Wednesday and Thursday. We will continue to collect donations until Friday, 12 December.
Year 10 student Robyn raised money for the Hong Kong Shark Foundation through a cookie sale initiative. While directing her studies and research to an area of personal interest, Robyn combined her passion and learning to support this meaningful cause. Well done to Robyn on her passion, purpose and kind action.
The connection between WIS and Kennedy School was on display on Tuesday as three Year 7 teams participated in a friendly triangular tournament, alongside Po Leung Kuk School. This provided a valuable opportunity for our players to gain competitive match experience as we start to build towards the U12 season beginning in April. All games were played in great spirit and sportsmanship.
The U16 Girls Netball team finished as runners-up in the ISSFHK tournament after a close-fought game. Their strong performance continued in the HKSSF, securing a convincing win in their most recent fixture.
The U14A Boys Basketball team faced a tough challenge in their recent fixture, but the team's resilience and effort led to several impressive performances. Year 8 student Peer had a particularly outstanding debut, demonstrating exceptional rebounding and facilitating skills in his first game in a WIS sports uniform.
The U20 Girls Basketball team secured a convincing win to kick-start their season. A special mention goes to Wendy who was inspirational in leading the team.
The U12 Girls faced a challenging fixture against one of the toughest teams in the group. Although the game was hard-fought, they came away with invaluable match experience and demonstrated fantastic resilience. We look forward to their next fixture.
