Find Your Purpose, Realise Your Potential
ESF CoCo is a foundation-wide computing conference for secondary students on 3 and 4 October. Students wishing to attend must submit the Parental Consent Form and register via this Registration Form. Year 10 to Year 13 students can also apply to host a workshop using this form.
British Biology Olympiad registration is now open for Year 12 and Year 13 students until Thursday, 1 October. This competition offers a fantastic opportunity to challenge your biological knowledge. Please register via this link.
Higher Education and Careers Hot Desk is available in the G&A space during Week A Thursday Period 2 and Week B Friday Period 3 to help students with university research and applications.

On Wednesday, our Higher Education and Careers team hosted our annual University Fair, welcoming representatives from over 130 universities across 16 countries. Insightful and inspiring discussions took place across our Auditorium, Multi-Purpose Hall and Sports Hall. Year 10 to Year 13 students and families relished this opportunity to explore diverse academic pathways. Our Higher Education and Careers counsellors look forward to supporting students as they take the next steps in their application journeys.

ESF Visit: Year 7 Science
ESF Chief Executive Officer Belinda Greer visited Year 7 science lessons this week to observe how students are settling into secondary school life. She witnessed the seamless transition from primary school and noted the personalised learning strategies supporting each student's progress. Students were eager to show their curiosity and share their findings during practical investigations, demonstrating an enthusiastic and confident start to their secondary science journey.

Building on her initiative in leading Women in STEM last academic year, Year 13 student Emily collaborated with our Biology Department to host Dr Thea Bradford from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). As a marine ecologist and co-director of an organisation engineering seawalls for areas impacted by flooding and habitat loss, Dr Bradford shared her diverse professional journey from science education in Australia to coastline restoration work in Hong Kong, offering students an inspiring perspective on careers in science.

Badminton: B Grade Boys and Girls
Our B Grade Boys and Girls badminton teams achieved impressive results in the HKSSF Badminton Competition, finishing fourth and third overall against more than 30 schools. Balancing public examination preparation with intense training, our students demonstrated exceptional time management and resilience. Their collective determination and confidence set a fantastic foundation as they begin training for the upcoming season.

High Performance Student Athlete
Year 12 student Salvador recently competed in the 15th International Dragon Boat Federation Club Crew World Championships in Hualien, Chinese Taipei. Competing against over 6,000 elite international athletes across three events, Salvador and his U18 Hong Kong Typhoon Dragon Boat team demonstrated exceptional determination and physical endurance, securing first place in every event and bringing home three gold medals.

The Year 11 Options webinar will discuss the Post-16 pathways and the options process for the current Year 11 students as they transition from middle school to upper school, where they will consider pathways including the IB DP, IB CP, and Extended Engineering Programme.
The webinar will give parents a clear understanding of the different educational pathways on offer at West Island School and provide a detailed overview of the options process.

ESF Secondary Music Festival: 23 September
Over 220 musicians from seven schools will take the stage at A Night at the Movies, performing music from film, television and musical theatre, with performances from orchestras, bands and choirs. Highlights include performances by the ESF Composition Contest and ESF Piano Concerto Competition winners, and a world premiere by the Senior Choir.
