The 79th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival (2027) registration through West Island School is now open. Interested students should review the syllabus and rules on the website with their parents and private music tutors before submitting entries via this Google Form by Friday, 2 October 2026.
ESF CoCo is a foundation-wide computing conference for secondary students on 3 and 4 October. Students wishing to attend must submit the Parental Consent Form and register via this Registration Form. Year 10 to Year 13 students can also apply to host a workshop using this form.
Star Search submission form will be open until Monday, 28 September. Whether you are an experienced performer or new to the stage, we look forward to seeing you share what you love doing.
Diwali Ball performance sign-ups are open until Wednesday, 30 September. Students can sign up using this form.

On Wednesday night, 14 student musicians represented West Island School at the ESF Secondary School Music Festival. Students from Years 8 through 13 and our music teachers showcased their diverse talents across a wide array of ensembles, including the Orchestra, Sinfonia Strings, Chamber Orchestra, Big Band, Concert Band, Junior Choir, and Senior Choir. Their impressive performances reflected both individual dedication and outstanding collective artistry. Congratulations to all our musicians for delivering such an inspiring evening of music.

Today, visiting artist Dominic Johnson-Hill spoke to our Years 12 and 13 IB Art students about the creative process. He shared insights on starting with a simple idea, embracing mistakes along the way, and allowing initial concepts to evolve into impactful, large-scale projects. His practical advice inspired our artists to approach their upcoming visual arts portfolios with confidence and creative freedom.

On Friday, our Year 13 Physics students completed their IB Internal Assessment (IA) practical work. Working independently in the laboratories, students carried out self-designed experiments using advanced apparatus to investigate complex physical phenomena. Their focus, rigorous analytical approach and methodical lab safety throughout the session reflected the strong scientific inquiry skills developed over their upper secondary studies.

Our student-led digital scientific magazine continues to flourish as a weekly project, driven by student curiosity and collaboration. Working together each week, students research topics across psychology, chemistry, biology, physics, computer science, and engineering, while others develop visually engaging layouts as part of the graphic design team. It is wonderful to see our students demonstrating such enthusiasm, dedication, and steady progress in expanding their scientific knowledge and communication skills.

Students across all year groups came together this Thursday for the Inter-Dynasty Maths challenge. Working in collaborative teams, students applied their classroom knowledge to solve mathematical puzzles. The event highlighted the power of teamwork while demonstrating how mathematics connects to everyday life in an engaging and enjoyable way. Congratulations to all participants for their enthusiastic problem-solving and Dynasty spirit.

Our Years 12 and 13 students wrapped up this month’s Inter-Dynasty Futsal with great determination. Students from lower year groups enjoyed watching the high-energy match while celebrating the strong bonds between Dynasties. U20A Boys Basketball team delivered an impressive performance, securing a hard-fought victory. They aim to build on this momentum as the season continues.
U14 Boys Football team demonstrated great determination and resilience in a tough match, focusing on key learning areas to come back stronger in their next fixture.

Year 7 student Hayson achieved first place at the 2026 National Junior Golf Tournament, the highest-level competition in the national circuit.
Qualifying alongside top-ranked national athletes as the world’s 80th-ranked player in his age group, Hayson demonstrated exceptional resolve throughout the event. In a tense finish that came down to the final hole on the last day, he secured his win by two strokes.
Year 12 student Gwyneth represented Hong Kong at the recent Junior Hockey Asia Cup in Inner Mongolia. Competing against top talent from 10 countries, Gwyneth gained invaluable experience on the international stage. This tournament served as a crucial continental qualification stage for the upcoming international Junior World Cup pathways.

Year 9 student Neil was nominated to participate in the prestigious Salzburg Music Festival over the summer, performing at a concert in the historic 800-year-old castle. Neil delivered a confident performance that delighted the audience. Continuing his summer of musical achievements, Neil also made his debut with the Eger Symphony Orchestra in Hungary.
