Hosted by our Environmental Council, WISustain, Eco Week offered us meaningful opportunities to reflect on our daily connection with the environment.
Through daily tutor time quizzes, a movie screening and workshops, our students strengthened their awareness of current environmental issues. They also shared their own pledges to sustainability, taking action as responsible global citizens.
The entire school community demonstrated this dedication through Thursday's 'No-Printing' pledge and Friday's 'Lights Out Hour' during Period 3. Together, we can make a difference through our daily actions.
Our Year 10 and 11 Sports Leaders led the way with the 'Beat Drugs' campaign this week. Students engaged with key facts regarding the dangers of drug use, gaining valuable awareness. Year 7 and 8 students also participated in a 'Dodge Drugs' Dodgeball Competition—a fun, active way to promote this important message.
As Year 13 students prepare for life beyond WIS, their "Are You Uni Ready?" workshop with Kely Support Group used interactive scenarios to tackle the realities of drug and alcohol use. Students explored the global legalities of substances while discussing the physical and mental health effects of alcohol and other drugs. By fostering an open, supportive environment, the workshop equipped students with the confidence to navigate difficult situations and make informed decisions as they gain independence.
Thursday's Evening of Film brought together talented students, a passion for storytelling, and an audience of supportive families, friends and teachers for an unforgettable showcase.
Our Year 13 IB Film students showcased a selection of their incredible short films to an enthusiastic audience. It was a fantastic opportunity for our community to witness the impressive results of their creativity, dedication, and teamwork. Well done to our inspiring filmmakers for such a great show.
Thank you to the parents who attended this week's Post-16 session on supporting their children during the final exam period. It was wonderful to hear the responses and the personal experiences our parents shared.
If you were unable to attend but would like to catch up on the key points covered, please review the slides prepared by our Guidance & Achievement, Health & Wellbeing, Post-16, and Higher Education & Careers Teams.
Post-16 parents will receive the session recording and resources next week.
This week's PTA Coffee Morning featured our English Faculty, who gave an insightful presentation and led a productive discussion with parents on supporting students' literacy at home. Please review the slides to see how we can work together to encourage reading habits and develop our students' oracy skills.
Every month, our Higher Education and Careers Team hosts a Coffee and College session. Our most recent discussion focused on the importance of fostering a habit of reading; if you missed it, you can catch up via the latest webinar recording.
Our next session is on “How might a liberal arts education (not a STEM degree) be the best preparation for an AI future?”

Congratulations to our students who completed individual stages or the full Weez Walk challenge. Let’s hear about their positive experiences and what they gained from the journey.
"We completed Stage 1 of the Weez Walk, and we decided to do it to improve our fitness and spend more time outdoors. We also wore our Weez Walk t-shirts. It was also easy to follow the route as we had downloaded the app." - Phoebe & Michelle, Year 8
"The Weez Walk was rather enjoyable, as it gave me a chance to relax and do some exercise, and I loved how I could also take a minute to reflect and take a look at the surroundings whilst I walked." - Yannie, Year 8
"It was an excellent time as a family to celebrate the glimmers in life. Whether that be a beautiful vista, a belly laugh, or the quiet confidence of having each other's back." - Ellington, Year 8
"It was a nice break from the usual work we do in school, and I found it very peaceful and relaxing." - Shanaya, Year 8
"The Weez Walk was a great experience. We got to hang out with our family over the 3 days that we did it in, and overall we really enjoyed this experience because it didn't just let us see parts of Hong Kong that we had never seen before, but also let us see the most beautiful parts of Hong Kong like the sunset at the top of a mountain and the inner beauty of Hong Kong Island." - Amelia & Olivia, Year 7
Thank you again to the students and families who participated in the Weez Walk Challenge this year and donated via the Weez website to support Mind HK. The West Island School fundraising page will still open if you would like to make a contribution.
