Inter-Dynasty Futsal takes place in September as our first inter-house event of the term. Registration for Year 7 is now open via the Dynasty website, with details for other year groups to follow. We encourage everyone to participate.
Weekly Highlights and Latest News
Year 8 and 9 students designed their own fitness watches in Computer Science. They studied hardware components, tested their prototypes, and collected real-time physical movement data to see how microprocessors handle user inputs. This hands-on activity developed their computational thinking and deepened their understanding of how smart technology supports everyday health and wellness.
Our Head Students have launched a weekly music playlist initiative to enrich school life and build community spirit across all year groups. Students can request their favourite tracks to be played school-wide every Friday morning through the PA system. Submit your song requests using this form.

On Tuesday, our U14 boys' football team showed great resilience during two rain-soaked matches. Our students demonstrated determination and teamwork throughout the afternoon. After a narrow defeat in their opening fixture, the team bounced back swiftly to secure a well-earned victory in their second match.
Year 13 students secured Gold and Bronze Awards at the Hong Kong AI Innovators Summit, competing against schools across the region with their AI-powered environmental solutions.
Elise, Jennifer and Navya won the Gold Award for their programme detecting school energy consumption anomalies using live data.
Bernice, Ivy, Mimi and Selina earned the Bronze Award for an innovative project developing edible packing peanuts.
Congratulations to both teams for presenting their ideas to industry judges and earning top honours.
Year 13 students Bella, David, Emily, and Joey entered the HKU Hong Kong InnoHealth Cup, advancing to the semi-final as one of 22 teams selected from nearly 130 entries. The team presented an innovative healthcare concept, demonstrating strong research skills and practical problem-solving.
Year 10 student Osman represented West Island School at the Harvard Model United Nations China conference in Guangzhou, joining over 700 international delegates. Representing various countries in complex debates, Osman developed communication, leadership, and analytical thinking skills while building global friendships. Following this exceptional performance, Osman has been invited to participate in the Harvard Model United Nations at Harvard University in Boston in January 2027. Good luck to Osman.
Last term, a group of Post-16 students joined the PolyU Junior Researchers Mentoring Programme. Working alongside university academics, our students explored innovative solutions to real-world challenges, with projects covering mosquito-borne disease tracking, AI-powered robotics, smart classroom design, game-based training for neurodiverse children, and the impact of generative AI on language teaching. Their dedication and creative thinking highlight a strong commitment to driving positive, impactful innovation for our future. Well done to Ella, Alexa, Ojaswini, Jessica, Yu Jin, Emily and Raina.
On Tuesday evening, our students represented West Island School at the prestigious Royal Geographical Society Young Geographer of the Year award ceremony. Congratulations to every student who participated, with special recognition to our category winners for their outstanding achievements.

Over 220 musicians from seven schools unite for A Night at the Movies, performing iconic film and theatre scores in ensembles from Big Band to Symphony Orchestra. Highlights include performances by the ESF Composition Contest and ESF Piano Concerto Competition winners, and a world premiere by the Senior Choir.
