Principal's Message

Dear West Island community,

I hope everyone has been safe at home with the inclement weather brought by the super typhoon.

Yesterday, we welcomed a past West Island student who graduated in 2018 and became the first person from Hong Kong who made it into the NBA G League David Muoka. While students marveled at his height and basketball skills, his story and rising stardom were inspirational beyond the basketball field. We will release videos and photos of his visit next week on the school social media platforms.

On top of school news, I would like to remind parents of some housekeeping information below.

First, if you have not downloaded the ESF app, please do so because many whole-school communications are sent through the app.

Secondly, there is to be a fire drill on Tuesday next week during P1.

Thirdly, The 2024/25 EDB Student Grant information has been released.  Please click here to read in full details.

Lastly, for safeguarding and child protection reasons, all staff and visitors at the school must wear a lanyard. Details about what the lanyards represent can be seen here.

Wishing everyone a safe and well weekend,

Vicki Hallatt

Year 7 student wins poetry contest

Year 7 Dora You wins Voices of LIncoln Poetry Contest in the youth division.

The contest's coordinator said: "Your poems did wonderfully in our contest. One hundred sixty poets submitted 301 poems. As the coordinator of the Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest, I want to share that your poem, Leap into Love tied for 3rd place in the youth division. Your poem, Leap into the Unknown also tied for third place. And your poem, Look Before You Leap took first place. You are the only young poet to place in all three of your entries, a remarkable feat!"

Please see below for the poem Look Before You Leap.

Look before you leap

In the quiet of the dawn, as the dew glistens,

I pause, and with a sigh, I gaze into the light

The world stirs slowly, waking from its sleep,

And in this moment, I must take heed

Look before you leap, I whisper to myself

For what may lie ahead, you do not know.

The path may twist and turn, it may bend and curve

But with a cautious step, you'll find your way.

So, I close my eyes, and breathe in deep,

Letting go of fear, of doubt, of fright

I focus on the sounds that fill the air,

The rustle of leaves, the call of a bird.

And as I stand there, rooted to the ground,

I feel the earth beneath me,

It whispers secrets, ancient stories

Of paths once trod, of lessons well-told.

My heart beats fast, but mind is clear and calm,

As I take that first step, away from my home

I trust the journey, I trust the path

The one who's been there, by my side

Together we'll leap, when it's time to go

But for now, let's look, and let our eyes guide.

For in this world of mystery and doubt,

The greatest gift we have is to look around
