Year 10 Ella Ng received a Commendation in the prestigious John Locke Institute Essay Competition, in the 2024 Global Essay in Psychology category. Additionally, Ella was awarded a scholarship equivalent to 3000 HKD to participate in the John Locke residential program this winter.
Ella said: "During the 2 months of composing my essay, I researched the topic of ‘Psychiatric illness vs character flaws; what’s the difference?’. I learned about the nature and nurture factors of psychiatric illness and character flaws, including the negative feedback loop of neurotransmitters, climate effects on the brain, and social norms. I edited my work multiple times with my teachers and I learned how to manage my time and to organise my arguments.
"I would also like to thank all the teachers who have supported me while writing this essay! It was cognitively taxing but your support has given me the push I needed to succeed. Thank you!"
Year 11 Anya Law won 2nd place at the One Day Event (Dressage, Showjumping and Cross Country ) at BREC for the HKE80 class.
ISSFHK swimming took place at Victoria Park and WIS demonstrated their prowess in the pool. There were some sensational performances but the race of the day was a photo-finish won by the U14 boys, edging out HKIS. Overall the team finished 4th, a wonderful achievement against strong swimming schools.
