Our head students have recently started a pilot project for menstrual health: implementing boxes containing pads within the female bathrooms at school.
Head student Chinny Kwok said that one of the biggest challenges that came with implementing the project came from logistical issues, specifically with how the pads would be restocked.
Finding the best solution required the team to do a lot of research and communication with both the finance managers and potential suppliers.
Eventually, the head students were able to find a way to bulk order pads from Taobao.
“That way it would be a lot cheaper and the quality would still be decent,” Tom said. “We would be able to get it a lot easier… Our main goal was to improve accessibility for students.”
Olive Chiu talked about how the team was able to foster awareness through assemblies, informing students on the topic, including about common misconceptions on periods.
“During morning registrations, I would help introduce this activity and the importance of it,” she said.
As the new head students are brought into WIS, the current head student team hopes that the school community will continue to find ways to support those who menstruate.
“I think this is the first stepping stone in itself,” Olive said. “This project has been really important in bringing awareness to this issue and destigmatizing periods.” She added that it was also important to exercise empathy, especially since not everyone around the world has equal access to period products.
Tom added to this idea by stressing the importance of being respectful, highlighting that students should only take what they need from these boxes.
“If someone is on their period and they're having cramps, or having uncomfortable symptoms, just being there to listen or talk… It’s just so important these days,” he said.

Nine WIS students visited the HKUST Sustainability Department to hear about some of the projects. Below are some reflections from students.
Rachel Chiu (12M3)
Seeing all the efforts HKUST constantly puts into making their campus more sustainable was so inspiring and it was fascinating to see how big of an impact a small group of people can make.
Charmaine Kwok (11T1)
The visit to HKUST was an enlightening and insightful experience focused on sustainability. I was impressed by the introduction to the university's Sustainability Student Engagement initiatives, like the focuses on different aspects of sustainability and waste management, which highlighted the collaborative efforts between students and faculty. Meeting with the student leaders of the Sustainable Smart Campus (SSC) Living Lab was particularly inspiring, as they shared their innovative project ideas and visions aimed at enhancing sustainability on campus. The demonstrations of faculty-led sustainability projects showcased real-world applications of these concepts, reinforcing the commitment to environmental stewardship. Overall, I appreciated the unique partnership between students and teachers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages impactful solutions to sustainability challenges.
Ojaswini Virmani (10T2)
The trip to HKUST was extremely enjoyable as we learned about the different things such a big campus is doing to be sustainable. We got to know about how students were involved in the sustainability of the campus through an annual competition in which some created apps for second-hand items or a device that gives you a digital receipt instead of a paper one, as paper receipts are recyclable.
On the 19th of March 11 Year 12 students enjoyed the privilege of attending the annual ESF Design Day at RCHK where they met Designers from across Hong Kong, listened to seminars and keynotes and joined a range of workshops.
Today we say a huge thank you to the outgoing CAS Ambassadors (Kush, Glen, Nikaash, Savannah and Martina) for their incredible work and support of the CAS programme over the last 12 months. These students have excelled in their own participation in the experiential learning programmes offered at WIS and have been incredible advocates of CAS in their time at WIS. As CAS Ambassadors they have collaborated with Ms Gilbert throughout the year promoting CAS and lending their valuable student voice to all aspects of the CAS and Horizons Week programmes; their contribution has been invaluable. We wish them well for the future and know that they will continue to enjoy and embrace all of the extracurricular experiences that await them at university.

Our Boys B Grade Badminton Team won against ISF Academy in the semifinals of the HKSSF Badminton competitions.
The team had the option to win without playing by invoking a rule that would immediately disqualify the opponent. In a show of integrity and sportsmanship our boys chose to play their games, winning 3 - 0 to advance to the Finals on 9 April 2025.
During the morning assemblies this week, Year 7-9 students have listened to a short presentation to reinforce school expectations when students are using the communal areas around school, including the school bathrooms.
This is due to our cleaners and catering team reporting mess being left unnecessarily which needs to be cleaned up.
The attached slides were shared with the students to provide some examples and explain appropriate use of these areas.
We pleased to report that since speaking to the students, these spaces have been left more clear of litter and the bathrooms have been much tidier.
Please take a moment to review the slides and discuss with your child the importance of being part of a community in using the facilities appropriately and demonstrating consideration for others.
We are thrilled to announce that WIS has secured the first runner-up position in the Mountain Mover category at this year's Weez Walk! This event raises funds for youth mental health and suicide prevention programs offered by the KELY Support Group.
Our goal is to enhance WIS's involvement in the Weez Walk in 2026, and we look forward to building on this success together. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important cause!
