Principal's Message

Dear West Island community,

This week, I want to applaud the enthusiasm our students, as inquirers, have shown consistently in their various ways of learning outside the classroom. Enthusiasm can be the driving force to sustain students’ love of learning throughout life, as one of the aims that the IB Learner Profile has in store for our students.

Three Year 12 students have shared with us how they discovered and developed their love of photography in this newsletter. Over the course of this academic year, they have served our community with their skills and dedication by taking photos for various school sports events, graduation ceremonies, WIS Bazaar and other occasions. The quality of their works has shown how taking the risk of trying something new has ignited the ‘Inquirer' in them.

Our students’ enthusiasm has also shone through with learning breaststroke swimming techniques at a coaching session given by athletes who have represented Hong Kong, winning awards at a world-wide music competition, and preparing for their first ‘jobs’ as newly appointed student ambassadors.

Please read on to learn about their stories and view their photos. We hope to celebrate our students’ achievements across different areas, and hope that these stories give you a glimpse into how inquiring can empower these students themselves and each other.

Have a lovely weekend.

WIS students in Hong Kong Schools Music Festival 2024

Congratulations to our West Island Schools musicians who competed in the 76th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in February and March. This is a prestigious HK Education Department competition that has been running for 76 years. Each year thousands of musicians compete in instrumental, vocal and choral categories in both western and Chinese music. The Festival aims to provide an opportunity for musicians to raise their performing standard in a competition in front of respected HK musicians/judges who value music learning and performance. Each of these students deserve applause and commendation for the hours they spent preparing for the competition and their courage for performing solo in front of other competitors and audiences. Congratulations, WIS musicians.
